Sir Elton John has chosen a school that provides Queen Elizabeth's choirboys for his baby Zachary.

The 'Rocket Man' singer and his partner David Furnish have put the two-month-old tot down for St George's School in Windsor, Berkshire, South East England.

The exclusive school - which is just a short distance from their £8.5 million home - was established in 1348 by King Edward III to provide choristers for nearby Windsor Castle's St George's chapel, which the British monarch attends.

The pop icon wants Zachary - who was born to an American surrogate mother on Christmas Day (25.12.10) - to start at the £7,500-a-year nursery department which takes children from the age of three.

He can stay at the school either as a border or day boy until he is 13.

Elton ' who is a friend of the queen and is a regular visitor to Windsor Castle - discussed Zachary's future with St George's head teacher Roger Jones during a private tour of the school on Monday (07.02.11).

A Windsor Castle source told The Sun newspaper: "It was no surprise when Sir Elton said his first choice of school for Zachary was the royal choir school here.

"It has an incredible music department and staff. All the children play an instrument from the age of about seven - and the piano is the favourite.

"Pupils all learn to sing and become part of the choir, and the best join the 24-boy choristers who sing for the queen in St George's Chapel."

The £18,000-a-year institution has educated a string of royals, including Prince Edward's daughter Lady Louise Windsor who is currently a pupil.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson also sent their youngest daughter Princess Eugenie there.

Elton and David then plan for their son to go to Britain's top private boy's school Eton College, which educated the queen's grandsons Prince William, 28, and Prince Harry, 26.
